Subject: Hating Things "On Principle"
Time: 1:41 AM
Though I may seem to be a completely judgmental asshole (and I admit, I have strong opinions), that is far from my only side. Not even counting the others, just me: just Alexander Antonin... Alexander Antonin is, in and of himself, a multi-faceted individual. So let me explain to you the concept of hating something or some group "on principle," why it doesn't make me close-hearted or close-minded, and why I am this way.
I have had a less than wonderful childhood. I distrust people in general, though it is Tristan's basic nature to be trustworthy. So I came along in response to the huge dump life was crapping on me. Bullies everywhere I went were basically the same. Some would just hit you and were fairly straightforward with their intentions. But the worst kind pretended to be kind to their victims and then turned on them. Only natural, then, that I distrust humans.
Furthermore, because of my distrust of humans (especially the male kind), and because of paying attention to the news and the world around me, I've grown to hate humanity on principle. This means that I hate the whole (or rather, the behavior of the whole) but am open to the possibility of individuals being at least fairly decent human beings.
So there you have it: hating something "on principle" means you hate the behavior of the group, but remain open to finding decent people among that group. A lot like the expression "hate the sin, love the sinner." Some examples of my hating groups on principle are as follows:1. Smokers. All of these groups have two things in common: I hate them on principle, and I have known decent people among all these groups. I've even made friends of people in these groups... very close friends. Hell, I reformed a bully once and he not only became my best ever friend but also my first gay lover. (*Laughs wickedly at the scandalized looks on the faces of the fag-haters.)
2. People who drink too much.
3. Stupid people. (Not mentally handicapped. I mean, people who would be smart if they actually used their brain.)
4. Bullies.
5. Hunters.
6. Gun fetishists.
7. People who don't tip, or don't tip well.
8. People who can't think for themselves, or choose not to.
Then there are the groups that might technically be "on principle," but I wouldn't know because I have yet to meet anyone from any of these groups who was anything remotely resembling a decent human being. Here is that list:1. Racists.
2. People who wear real fur.
3. Poachers.
4. Rapists.
5. Serial killers.
6. People who kill children for any reason.
7. People who torture any other living being. (Yes, you too Mr. Bush!)
8. Religious extremists (you too, Christian extremists!)
9. The Anti-Choice crowd (so-called Pro-Life people, but these are the same people who support the death penalty, so
there goes their credibility).
10. People who take the Bible literally.
11. Any politicians who care more about themselves than about doing the right thing.
12. People who hate or judge gays, lesbians, bisexuals, genderqueers, or anyone else "unusual."
13. Cult leaders.
With utmost sincerity;
- Alexander Antonin
